Rabun County is governed by a five member Board of Commissioners and operates on an annual budget of approximately $19,075,686. 

The 2007 Census estimate shows a population of 16,519.

Rabun County has a total of 377 square miles. 371 square miles of it is land and 6 square miles of it is water.  Approximately 60% of the land is in the National Forests and State Parks, approximately 20% is held by Georgia Power and the rest is privately owned. 

The county's three major lakes are Lake Burton which cover 2775 acres, Lake Rabun cover 835 acres, and Lake Seed covers 240 acres. The county also has a large number of trout streams, including the Tallulah River, the Coleman River and Charlie's Creek.
